Ranking Up – How to rank up and make sales

No matter what those who claim to be “in the know” may tell you about the effectiveness or ineffectiveness of classified advertising, PPC (Pay-Per-Click), targeted traffic, email marketing, etc.; the fact remains that if you want to make sales, you need a lot of eyeballs on your ads.
Even with PPC advertising on places like Google, which can be VERY expensive, you might get ALL clicks and NO sales. Want to know something? Clicks taste like… well… they don’t actually have a flavor, at all! So… How can the average person possibly afford this way of getting people clicking on their ads?
If you’ve been trying to make money on line for more than a couple of weeks, you’ve probably already seen tons of “secrets” from the “gurus” telling you all about the tricks and tweaks and special software that they constantly claim will boost your sales through the stratosphere using PPC and the like…
Here’s the bottom line – from experience (sad experience) – these gurus are making a killing telling you how to spend money with no results, and if you complain, they’ll simply refer you to the tiny disclaimer at the bottom of their website (the fine print), which says that not everyone will get these results and there’s no guarantee anyone will get ANY results…
The most effective way to make sales on your site is to bring a LOT of FREE targeted traffic to your site. Take it from experience; this does work and is doable.
Visiting forums and commenting often while always including a signature file is a great way to boost your traffic from the search engines. Remember that simply pasting the same thing into forum comments everywhere is considered spam by most of the search engines and can get you banned, so make sure to use your imagination! Contribute something relevant and valuable to the conversation.
Start a blog like this one. Did you know that you can get a website just like this one built and hosted for free? Since it uses a WordPress platform, it’s already very search engine friendly, and has a ton of useful tools for drawing targeted traffic that is ready and hungry to click on your links.
Remember that in blogging, what you are doing is starting a conversation by telling a story, your story. The comments that people leave are the other side of the conversation. You continue the conversation when you reply to those replies. There is simply nothing more organic than the traffic that comes from a good blog.
Note: A blog is YOUR story. A lot of people are failing at blogging, because they’re trying to make the story about a product they want to sell you. In this age of Amazon, Ebay, and all the big box stores that now have virtual stores on line, trying to sell directly by blogging about the products is like trying to build a successful mom and pop general store beside a Walmart. Remember that it’s a conversation. Sometimes during a live conversation with our friends we mention a product we saw or liked and they get interested enough to go buy it. Think of a blog as the same thing, but in a virtual (on line) conversation.
Another excellent way to get a lot of quality free targteted traffic is via free classified advertising. People love to search through classified ads for good deals and for job and business opportunities. This is an excellent way to get your product or service in front of people who are actually looking for it, and best of all, it’s free.
Classified ads are short, easy to create, and very easy to post. The hardest part of classified advertising is in actually creating the ad. Once you’re done that (on your own computer, saved in a text file, of course), you can paste it into as many free classified ad sites as you can find, changing it slightly as you go to keep it fresh.
One of the BEST things about advertising via free classified ads is that there are SO MANY places to do it! Just type “free classified ads” or even “free classified” into the Google search window, and BOOM! You have 200 million places to advertise, just like that.
Get creative as you place your ad, changing it slightly from time to time, and you are telling Google that your website is a really important place to visit! Every ad you place is a new link to your website or product, telling the search engines to raise your ranking. It’s very effective, and it’s free!
